The future PGA Championship sites are PGA Frisco in Texas (2027 and 2034), the Olympic Club in San Francisco (2028), Baltusrol (2029), Congressional (2030), Kiawah Island’s Ocean Course (2031), Southern Hills (2032), Bethpage Black (2033) and Oak Hill (2035). Three of them, Frisco, Kiawah and Bethpage, sell tee times to the public.

The PGA Championship has been played in May since 2019, and the PGA of America has now announced its venues for most of the next decade. The rota is a mix of old private clubs with long championship histories, public courses that have become major venues, and the association’s own new home in Texas. The most recent edition, at Aronimink outside Philadelphia in May 2026, was won by England’s Aaron Rai, according to the PGA Tour’s results. For the most famous championship courses and who can play them, start with our guide to famous golf courses.

This guide goes through every announced site, year by year, with what each course is like, what’s happened there before, and whether you can play it. If you’re a golfer who wants to play a future major venue before the pros do, there’s a table of the three public courses, with green fees and booking windows. If you’re a spectator, there’s a list of who’s hosting where and when.

How we built this. The sites and years come from the PGA of America’s announcements, as reported by NBC Sports, Sports Illustrated and other outlets, and from the New York State announcement of September 17, 2025, which confirmed Bethpage Black for 2033 and Oak Hill for 2035. The 2026 result comes from the PGA Tour’s leaderboard. Green fees for the public venues come from each course’s own website, except where marked “reported”. The history of past championships comes from the tournament records.

Where is the next PGA Championship?

At Fields Ranch East, PGA Frisco, north of Dallas, in 2027. It’s the PGA of America’s own new home, a Gil Hanse course that opened in 2023, and the 2027 event will be its first men’s major. It returns there in 2034.

Frisco is a new kind of venue for the PGA. The association moved its headquarters there from Florida and built two championship courses alongside, and the PGA Championship is part of the deal: two men’s PGA Championships, in 2027 and 2034, along with the senior and women’s majors the course has already hosted. Steve Stricker won the Senior PGA Championship there in 2023, in a playoff over Pádraig Harrington, and Minjee Lee won the KPMG Women’s PGA there in 2025 at 4 under par, a score that tells you how hard the course can play in the North Texas wind.

The last PGA Championship: Aronimink, 2026

The 108th PGA Championship was played at Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, outside Philadelphia, in May 2026. According to the PGA Tour’s leaderboard, England’s Aaron Rai won his first major with a final-round 65, finishing at 9 under par, 271.

Aronimink is a Donald Ross design from the 1920s and a private club. It had hosted the PGA Championship once before, in 1962, when Gary Player won, and in 2018 it hosted the BMW Championship, part of the PGA Tour’s season-ending playoffs. Its return to the major rota after more than 60 years is typical of the PGA of America’s approach: bring back classic courses with a story, alongside new venues of its own.

2027 to 2030: Frisco, the Olympic Club, Baltusrol and Congressional

PGA Frisco (Fields Ranch East), 2027

Frisco, Texas · public · Gil Hanse (2023) · about 7,863 yards from the championship tees (reported, 2024); rating and slope not published · green fee about $277 to $330 plus a required caddie (reported, 2026) · walking only · book 7 days ahead, or 10 for Frisco residents

The course is big, open and exposed, built on prairie with the wind as its main defence, and it’s the only future PGA Championship site in Texas. It’s also the most accessible of the future venues: anyone can book a tee time a week ahead and walk it with a caddie. We break down the costs in our guide to the PGA Frisco green fee, and the state’s other courses in our guide to the best golf courses in Texas.

Verdict: the future major venue to play first, because you can. Go before 2027, when the course will be in every highlight reel.

The Olympic Club (Lake Course), 2028

San Francisco, California · private · Lake Course by Sam Whiting and Willie Watson (1924) · U.S. Opens 1955, 1966, 1987, 1998 and 2012 · first PGA Championship in 2028; Ryder Cup in 2033 · members and guests only

The Olympic Club is famous for upsets. Its Lake Course, a cool, foggy, tree-lined layout by Lake Merced, has hosted five U.S. Opens, and the favourite has rarely won: Jack Fleck beat Ben Hogan in a playoff in 1955, Billy Casper overhauled Arnold Palmer in 1966, and Webb Simpson won from behind in 2012. The 2028 PGA Championship will be its first, and the club hosts the Ryder Cup in 2033. It’s a private club, and its courses aren’t open to visitors.

Verdict: one of the great championship courses in the West, and a fascinating PGA venue, because its narrow, sloping fairways reward control over power. You’ll have to watch it on television.

Baltusrol Golf Club (Lower Course), 2029

Springfield, New Jersey · private · A.W. Tillinghast (1922) · PGA Championships 2005 and 2016; U.S. Opens on the Lower Course 1954, 1967, 1980 and 1993 · members and guests only

Baltusrol is one of the most decorated clubs in American golf. Its Lower Course, a Tillinghast design from the early 1920s, has hosted four U.S. Opens, two of them won by Jack Nicklaus, and two PGA Championships: Phil Mickelson won in 2005, and Jimmy Walker in 2016. The club’s history goes back much further; Jerome Travers won the 1915 U.S. Open there, on an earlier course.

Verdict: a classic Tillinghast championship test in the New York area, and private; the closest public Tillinghast experience for most golfers is Bethpage Black, which hosts in 2033.

Congressional Country Club (Blue Course), 2030

Bethesda, Maryland · private · Blue Course by Devereux Emmet (1924), renovated many times since · PGA Championship 1976; U.S. Opens 1964, 1997 and 2011; KPMG Women’s PGA 2022 · Ryder Cup in 2037 · members and guests only

Congressional, outside Washington, D.C., has been a championship venue for more than 60 years. Ken Venturi won the 1964 U.S. Open there in brutal heat, Ernie Els won in 1997 and Rory McIlroy ran away with the 2011 U.S. Open. Dave Stockton won its only PGA Championship, in 1976. The club also hosted the KPMG Women’s PGA in 2022 and is scheduled to host the Ryder Cup in 2037.

Verdict: a big, demanding parkland course with a grand clubhouse, and one of the best-connected clubs in American golf. Private, and likely to stay that way.

2031 to 2035: Kiawah, Southern Hills, Bethpage, Frisco again and Oak Hill

Kiawah Island Golf Resort (Ocean Course), 2031

Kiawah Island, South Carolina · resort/public · Pete and Alice Dye (1991) · PGA Championships 2012 and 2021; Ryder Cup 1991 · green fee not published; about $480 for resort guests (reported, 2026), with non-guests paying more · non-guests book up to 60 days ahead · walking allowed at any time

The Ocean Course is Pete and Alice Dye’s seaside course on the Atlantic, built for the 1991 Ryder Cup and famous for its wind. It has produced two memorable PGA Championships: Rory McIlroy won by eight shots in 2012, and Phil Mickelson won in 2021 at 50, the oldest major champion in history. It’s a resort course, so you can play it, at a price.

Verdict: the most spectacular of the future PGA venues you can book. Play it on a calm day if you can; the wind can make it brutal. We cover it, and the rest of the state, in our guide to South Carolina’s best golf courses.

Southern Hills Country Club, 2032

Tulsa, Oklahoma · private · Perry Maxwell (1936), restored by Gil Hanse (2019) · PGA Championships 1970, 1982, 1994, 2007 and 2022; U.S. Opens 1958, 1977 and 2001 · members and guests only

Southern Hills will become the first course to host six PGA Championships when the event returns in 2032. Its winners include Raymond Floyd, Nick Price, Tiger Woods in 2007 and Justin Thomas in 2022, and the course is known for heat, Bermuda rough and a demanding finish. Gil Hanse’s restoration before the 2022 championship brought back Perry Maxwell’s original style.

Verdict: the PGA Championship’s most faithful partner, and a great test of all-round golf. Private; you’ll need an invitation.

Bethpage State Park (Black Course), 2033

Farmingdale, New York · public, run by New York State Parks · A.W. Tillinghast (1936) · PGA Championship 2019; U.S. Opens 2002 and 2009; Ryder Cup 2025 · New York residents $70 on weekdays and $80 at weekends; non-residents $140 and $160 (official, 2026) · New York residents book 7 days ahead and non-residents 5, from 7 pm · walking only

Bethpage Black is the people’s major venue: a state-park course where anyone can play for $140 on a weekday as a non-resident, or half that as a New Yorker. It has hosted two U.S. Opens, the 2019 PGA Championship, won by Brooks Koepka, and the 2025 Ryder Cup. The New York State announcement of September 2025 brought the PGA Championship back for 2033, along with the KPMG Women’s PGA in 2028.

Verdict: the best-value major venue in America, and the most famous public course in the Northeast. Be ready to walk, and read the warning sign on the first tee.

PGA Frisco (Fields Ranch East), 2034

The PGA Championship returns to Frisco seven years after its first visit, making Fields Ranch East the only course on the rota with two events already scheduled. By then, the course will have a decade of championships behind it.

Oak Hill Country Club (East Course), 2035

Rochester, New York · private · Donald Ross (1926), restored by Andrew Green · PGA Championships 1980, 2003, 2013 and 2023; U.S. Opens 1956, 1968 and 1989; Ryder Cup 1995 · members and guests only

Oak Hill is the most recently confirmed venue on the list, announced alongside Bethpage in September 2025. Its East Course has hosted four PGA Championships, won by Jack Nicklaus in 1980, Shaun Micheel in 2003, Jason Dufner in 2013 and Brooks Koepka in 2023, and three U.S. Opens. The 2035 event will be its fifth PGA.

Verdict: a classic Ross parkland course, freshly restored, with as much championship history as any club in the Northeast. Private.

Which future PGA Championship venues can you play?

Three: Fields Ranch East at PGA Frisco, the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island and Bethpage Black. Fields Ranch East was reported at about $277 to $330 plus a caddie, the Ocean Course at about $480 for resort guests, and Bethpage Black charges non-residents $140 to $160. The other future venues are private clubs.

If you want to play a course before it hosts a major, these three are the list, and each has its own booking quirk:

  1. Fields Ranch East: set a reminder for exactly seven days before your date, or ten if you live in Frisco, and budget for the caddie, who is required for every player. Guests of the Omni PGA Frisco Resort can book earlier.
  2. The Ocean Course: non-guests can book up to 60 days ahead, but resort guests get priority and the lower rate, so a stay on Kiawah Island is usually the better deal. Check the forecast; calm days are rare.
  3. Bethpage Black: New York residents can book seven days ahead and everyone else five, with times released at 7 pm. Have the reservation system open and your details ready the moment the window opens.
  4. Plan around the championships. Courses close for the build-up to a major, so check each club’s calendar before booking in a championship year.

Of the three, Bethpage Black is the cheapest and hardest to book; the Ocean Course is the most expensive and the most dramatic; Fields Ranch East is the newest, and the only one you can play before its first men’s major. For the other famous courses that sell tee times, including Pebble Beach and TPC Sawgrass, see our guide to bucket list golf courses and our breakdown of the TPC Sawgrass green fee. And if the course you really want to play is Augusta National, our guide to whether you can play Augusta National has the honest answer.

How does the PGA of America choose its venues?

Its choices mix three kinds of course: historic private clubs with long championship records, such as Southern Hills, Oak Hill and Baltusrol; public courses that have proved they can stage a major, such as Bethpage Black and Kiawah’s Ocean Course; and its own new home at PGA Frisco, which has two events locked in.

The pattern has shifted since the championship moved to May in 2019. A spring date opens up courses in the South and the Southwest that would be too hot in August, which helps explain why Frisco and Southern Hills feature, and makes northern courses such as Oak Hill and Bethpage more playable too.

The public venues matter more than they used to. The return to Bethpage, a state-run course, the Ocean Course at Kiawah, and the move to Frisco, where the PGA of America built courses the public can play, mean that three of the next nine championships will be on courses anyone can book. Many of the same venues also host the association’s other championships, from the KPMG Women’s PGA to the Senior PGA.

The architecture of the rota is worth a look too. Donald Ross (Aronimink and Oak Hill), A.W. Tillinghast (Baltusrol and Bethpage), Perry Maxwell (Southern Hills) and Pete Dye (Kiawah) are all represented, alongside Gil Hanse, who designed Fields Ranch East and restored Southern Hills. For more on those architects and their courses, see our guide to golf course architects.

Which course has hosted the most PGA Championships?

Southern Hills in Tulsa, with five, in 1970, 1982, 1994, 2007 and 2022. When the championship returns there in 2032, it will become the first course to host six. Oak Hill in Rochester has hosted four and will host its fifth in 2035.

Southern Hills’ list of champions is a good guide to the course: Dave Stockton, Raymond Floyd, Nick Price, Tiger Woods and Justin Thomas, all players who could handle heat, thick rough and firm greens. Oak Hill’s champions, from Jack Nicklaus to Brooks Koepka, have needed the same skills in a cooler climate.

Of the other future venues, Baltusrol and Kiawah’s Ocean Course have each hosted two PGA Championships, Congressional, Aronimink and Bethpage Black one each, and the Olympic Club and PGA Frisco none before their upcoming events.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the 2027 PGA Championship?

At Fields Ranch East, PGA Frisco, in Frisco, Texas, north of Dallas. It will be the course’s first men’s major; it has already hosted the 2023 Senior PGA Championship and the 2025 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.

Where is the 2028 PGA Championship?

At the Olympic Club’s Lake Course in San Francisco. It will be the club’s first PGA Championship, after five U.S. Opens. The Olympic Club also hosts the Ryder Cup in 2033.

Who won the 2026 PGA Championship?

Aaron Rai of England won at Aronimink Golf Club in May 2026, finishing at 9 under par, 271, with a final-round 65, according to the PGA Tour’s results. It was his first major championship.

Which future PGA Championship courses are public?

Three: Fields Ranch East at PGA Frisco (2027 and 2034), the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island (2031) and Bethpage Black (2033). The Olympic Club, Baltusrol, Congressional, Southern Hills and Oak Hill are private.

Is the PGA Championship coming back to Bethpage Black?

Yes, in 2033. The PGA of America and New York State announced it in September 2025, along with the 2028 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship at Bethpage and the 2035 PGA Championship at Oak Hill.

Why is the PGA Championship going to Frisco twice?

Because PGA Frisco is the PGA of America’s new headquarters, and hosting major championships there, including the men’s PGA in 2027 and 2034, is part of the association’s move to Texas.

When is the PGA Championship played?

In May. The championship moved from its traditional August date to May in 2019, which is one reason southern venues such as Frisco and Southern Hills feature on the rota.

Can you go and watch the PGA Championship?

Yes. Tickets for practice and championship days are sold through the championship’s official website, usually well in advance. The PGA of America announces specific dates and ticket details for each year closer to the event.

Our verdict

The future PGA Championship sites are a strong list: two of the great private clubs of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, two of the most storied championship courses in the country in Southern Hills and Oak Hill, the Olympic Club’s first PGA, and three courses anyone can play. For a golfer, the three public venues are the opportunity. Book Fields Ranch East before 2027, save up for Kiawah’s Ocean Course, and set an alarm for Bethpage Black’s 7 pm booking window. For the spectator, 2027 in Texas and 2028 in San Francisco look like the ones to plan for.
